Tour of Lundy’s Lane Historical Museum and Fort George
On Friday, July 13, attendees with pre-purchased tour tickets will gather in the lobby of the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel for a 10:30 a.m. departure. Sherman Zavitz, official historian of both the City of Niagara Falls and the Niagara Parks Commission, will be the tour guide.
A bus will take you to the Lundy’s Lane Historical Museum in Niagara Falls, of which Mr. Zavitz is a member of the governing board. Over an hour will be allocated to view the exhibits housed in the 2-story historical building.
The bus will take you along the Niagara River and stop at the famous Floral Clock (the largest clock of it’s type in the world, made of thousands of plants and flowers); the breathtaking Giant Whirlpool and Gorge in the Niagara River (where the falls used to be 5,000 years ago); and, time permitting, an all-too-short stop at the Botanical Gardens. All three- places offer great photo opportunities. A stop at a reasonably-priced family restaurant (cost not included) will be made before traveling to historic Fort George, located at Niagara-on-the-Lake, for a 45-minute tour of the fort and a 15 minute demonstration by guards in period-costumes starting at 2:00 p.m.
The bus will drop everyone off at the convention hotel at about 3:30 p.m.
The nominal price of $35 includes transportation, stopovers and admission to both Lundy’s Lane Historical Museum and Fort George (lunch not included).
Tour of Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake
On Saturday, July 14, ticket holders will gather in the lobby of the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel by 11:00 a.m., where a bus with a tour guide will take them first to the brink of the Falls and Table Rock House Souvenir Shop for a 30 minute stopover. Next comes a tour of Upper Niagara River where you will see the marooned scow, upper control dam, Dufferin Islands and Sir Harry Oakes Estate, stopping off at Mount Carmel Chapel for 15 minutes where you will see the beautiful stain glass windows and wood carvings inside the shrine.
Other stopovers are at the Chocolate Factory where they will explain how chocolate is made and offer free sampling; the Welland Canal Locks and Museum (where you can also visit the Lacrosse Museum); and Vincor Niagara outlet for complimentary wine tasting of wines from four area vineyards. During your visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake, you will have time to explore the first capital of Upper Canada on a walking tour, enjoy lunch (not included) in one of the quaint restaurants and pick up souvenirs in the many antique and souvenir stores that line the streets. You will be dropped off at the convention hotel around 5:00 p.m.
The price of $30 includes transportation and tour guide.
Tickets for both tours must be pre-purchased and are subject to cancellation due to lack of minimum number of committed participants.
We look forward to seeing you at the 2007 C.N.A. Convention!
